If I am suppose to wien myself off of the Prednisone, then why am I prescribed 5 pills a day for 7 days?
your doctor or pharmacist may not have prescribed the dosage correctly. Most of the time prednisone is taken for a series of about two weeks with 5 pills for a couple days, four pills the next couple days, three pills a couple more days, two pills a couple days, then one pill a couple days. I would call your doctor to find out exactly how to take your medicine.
As a healthcare provider, it all depends on how long you have been taking it and at what dosage. A short course (say a week) can be given without tapering, although many of us still prescribe it that way. I need to know why you have been taking it or why it was ordered? And, like I said, the dosage and the length of time you were on it does make the difference.

Did the doctor tell you to wean yourself off or you have a prescription that says how to wean yourself off? You care given a high dose of Prednisolone at first. Weaning off does not mean stopping the medication completely all at once. you have to wean yourself off gradually. You don't want any side effects to set in if you will completely stop this medication. the best thing to do is follow your doctors orders.
