I want to get a tattoo. But was told that if you do u can't be a blood/organ donor?

Is this true?I want to get a tattoo. But was told that if you do u can't be a blood/organ donor?
I think for a certain period after getting the tattoo you can't donate blood. Because of the ink. Your best bet would be to ask the Tattoo shop.
Not sure about the organ part, but, if you want to give blood, there is a time period that you have to wait between getting the tat & before you can give blood.
Thats not true. You can still do both but there has to be a 6 months period between when you get the tattoo and when your a donor so that it gives time for any possible viruses and other illnesses to show up.
No, not true, I have 2 tattos and have donated over a gallon of blood. There is however a time period after getting one that you have to wait.
Yes it's true you can't donate blood it takes one or two years so you blood is free of ink.
The Hawaii Blood Bank defers all donors who have had tattooing or body piercing for one year. I was told that this is a precaution against blood born infections such as hepatitis. Iam not sure about organ donation, but there has to be a screening process to make sure they are healthy.
You can donate one year after a tattoo.

The reason you have to wait is because some viruses don't show up immediately after infection occurs, they have what is called an incubation period...for HIV for example, the incubation period is 6 months to 1 year.
Needles are a potential source of HIV infection (according to the Red Cross, not me), so you have to wait out the incubation period so that if the blood is tested for the virus, it will show up.
After you wait this period of time, you may donate blood.
